Hardwick Law Firm, LLC was originally established in 1991 under the name of the Law Offices of Herbert E. Hardwick, P.C. The Firm’s founder Herbert E. Hardwick operated as a sole practitioner with a focus in the areas of real estate and public finance.
Jean Z. Matzeder joined the Firm in 1996 bringing 26 years legal experience and expertise in the field of municipal finance. In 1997, Ms. Matzeder was made a partner with the Firm. In an effort to diversify its client base beyond the Missouri border, Hardwick Law Firm was selected in 2006 to act as underwriter's counsel in connection with financings being performed on behalf of the City of Chicago, Illinois. This successful undertaking propelled the Firm into new markets and allowed them to expand outside of Kansas City to St. Louis, Missouri, Hartford, Connecticut, New York, New York, Chicago, Illinois, Houston, Texas, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
It is one of the first minority law firms to be ranked in The Bond Buyer's top 10 bond counsel in the State of Missouri. Since 1995 the Firm has been consistently ranked among the top 10 bond counsel firms in the State of Missouri for volume of municipal bonds sold upon which it has rendered legal opinions. The Firm has been ranked among the top 25 bond counsel firms in the Midwest by The Bond Buyer. The Firm serves as bond counsel, co-bond counsel or underwriter’s counsel to several issuers throughout the Midwest and along the eastern seaboard.
