Herbert E. Hardwick,
Founder and Principal

 
      The Hardwick Law Firm, LLC was established in January 1991. Herbert E. Hardwick is the founder of the firm. He practices in the areas municipal finance, real estate, and corporate law.

      Mr. Hardwick has extensive experience in public finance, complex redevelopment projects and general corporate matters. He has worked and served as counsel on real estate redevelopment projects which include and utilize public finance and various forms of subsidies to fund projects. These projects have included hotel development utilizing bond financing, strip mall development utilizing both bond finance and tax increment financing as well as conventional financing methods. He has served as counsel to state agencies, cities, city agencies, redevelopers (private and not for profit), and corporations on a wide host of matters.

      Mr. Hardwick is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers and carries an “AV” rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. He is also a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers.

      Mr. Hardwick is a graduate of Dartmouth College (Hanover, New Hampshire) and the University of Missouri (Columbia, Missouri) where he received his Juris Doctorate.
 
 

Jean Z. Matzeder,
Partner

 

      Ms. Matzeder joined the Hardwick Law Firm in 1996. With her she brings her expertise in municipal finance. Ms. Matzeder has 26 years legal experience primarily as bond counsel. Ms. Matzeder is licensed to practice law in Missouri, Illinois, and Texas.

      She is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers. She has served as a panelist for the Governmental Obligations section of NABL’s annual workshop and has been involved in municipal bond transactions in Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Illinois and Connecticut.

      Additionally Ms. Matzeder worked on tax increment financing legislation in Missouri and Texas and served on State Debt Management Policy Committee for State of Missouri. Jean also carries an “AV” rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.

      Ms. Matzeder graduated with distinction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City where she served as student editor –in-Chief of The Urban Lawyer.

 
   
Linda Hart Tabory,
Partner
 

      Ms. Tabory is an attorney in Kansas City, Missouri, where she concentrates her practice in the areas of elder law, probate matters, guardianships, long term care planning, asset protection, and estate planning.

      Mrs. Tabory received her law degree from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and has done graduate legal work in advocacy at Georgetown University Law Center. She is licensed to practice law in Missouri, Illinois, Washington, D.C., and Minnesota.

      Mrs. Tabory is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the current President of the Missouri Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She is an active member of the Missouri Bar's Probate and Elder Law committees and the immediate past-chairperson of the Probate and Trust Committee of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. She is a frequent speaker on issues affecting the elderly and disabled..

 
   

Mark A. Styles, Jr.
Attorney

 

     Mark Anthony Styles, Jr. is a member of the Probate and Estate Planning Department.  Mr. Styles has extensive experience in establishing and processing guardian and conservatorships, elder law, asset protection, long term care planning, estate planning, and other probate matters.

   Mr. Styles currently serves as a Court appointed Guardian Ad Litem for minors in contested guardianship proceedings.

      Mr. Styles received his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia in Finance with an emphasis in Banking.  He then attended Thurgood Marshall School of Law where he obtained his juris doctorate and was admitted to the Missouri Bar in April 2005. 

      His past work experience includes working for the Jackson County Public Administrator's Office where he served as counsel for the Public Administrator who serves as guardian and conservator and executor for more than 1,200 estates in the Kansas City area. 

Mr. Styles currently serves on the board of directors for both the KCMBA Leadership Academy and the KCMBA Diversity Committee.

 
   

Megan Cervas,
Paralegal

 

      Ms. Cervas, a paralegal with the Hardwick Law Firm, LLC. Ms. Cervas joined the Hardwick Law Firm in February 2005. She performs legal assistant duties for Mr. Hardwick and Ms. Matzeder.

      Her primary duties include docket management and initial drafting of pleadings, client interviews and contacts. She performs legal research and assists with firm administrative matters. In the municipal finance practice, Ms. Cervas assists with preparation of Official Statements, and distribution of closing documents, organizing and assembling of transcripts of proceedings and filing of documents as required. In the real estate practice area, Ms. Cervas works with title companies and clients to coordinate the execution and delivery documents.

 
   

Margaret O’Malley
Paralegal

 

      Ms. O’Malley is a paralegal with the Hardwick Law Firm’s probate and estate planning practice group.  Her duties include client interviews and communication, docket management, legal research, correspondence and document preparation.  She handles the guardianship cases and prepares all of the estate planning documents.

 
   

Rynessa Stephens
Legal Assistant

 

      Ms. Stephens is a legal assistant with the Hardwick Law Firm’s probate and estate planning practice group.  Her duties include client communication, fiduciary settlements, research, correspondence and document preparation.  She primarily handles conservatorship cases.  She also handles many of the firm’s administrative and technology matters.

 
   

Frazier Baldwin
Administrative Assistant

 

      Ms. Baldwin is an administrative assistant with the Hardwick Law Firm.  Her duties include answering the telephone, greeting clients, managing correspondence, and performing other administrative functions.
